A colposcopy is recommended when you have an abnormal pap smear. This procedure uses a magnified light called a colposcope to look at your cervix, which will allow the physician to determine if a biopsy needs to be performed. If so, your doctor will take a small sampling of the cervical tissue and send it to the lab for review.
