After an abnormal colposcopy, your doctor may recommend a biopsy procedure called a LEEP. This is a procedure in which a small wire loop is used to remove abnormal cells from the cervix by electro-cautery. The procedure does not require sedation, however, a numbing agent (Lidocaine) will be used on the cervix to eliminate the majority of discomfort.
