Nutrition Matters

A well-balanced diet is key to good health, especially as you age. What you eat can affect your quality of life and how long you live. As you grow older, you may not feel like eating, foods may not taste the same, or you may not want to or be able to cook. But it’s important to try to keep a healthy weight. Extra weight increases your chances of having health problems.

Good nutrition is vital throughout life. Eating a well-planned, balanced diet with more fresh fruits and vegetables and fewer processed foods can help to:

  • Lower your risk of heart disease, certain types of cancer, stroke and diabetes
  • Manage high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Keep up your energy level
  • Relieve constipation
