Dr. Lucia Franca is a board certified OBGYN and joined Golden Gate in 2014. She was born in Houston, Texas where she grew up until attending the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia for college. In college she majored in Sociology with a concentration in Women and Health while completing her pre-medical coursework. Her studies in college further bolstered her interest in women’s issues and raised her awareness of how non-biomedical factors affect women’s health.
After college Dr. Franca spent a year living in Brazil before starting medical school in her hometown at Baylor College of Medicine. After completing medical school Dr. Franca went on to complete her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at University of Texas, Southwestern in Austin, Texas. During her intern year she was a recipient of the North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology Young Scholar’s Grant and she continues to be dedicated to adolescent health care and has an interest in minimally invasive surgery. She also is committed to teaching her patients about familial cancers and cancer risk reduction strategies, focusing on breast cancer. What Dr. Franca most appreciates about her job is that she gets to interact with new people every day and that they allow her to participate in such an intimate part of their lives.
In her free time, Dr. Franca’s favorite thing to do is to travel and explore new places and adventures. She often goes to visit her family in Argentina but also enjoys experiencing different cultures and meeting people from all over the world. Dr. Franca is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese. She likes going out to see live music, loves to dance and has caught the Zumba fever. She, her husband and two young children live in San Francisco and enjoy biking around town and exploring the Bay area.
