Urinary tract infection (UTI) is where bacteria that enters from the urethra spreads to the bladder.
What are the symptoms of a UTI?
- When urinating there’s a burning sensation or sharp pain, can be a spasm feeling at the end of urinating (dysuria).
- Needing to urinate more often than usual for you (frequency).
- Strong need to urinate (urgency).
- When urinating there’s blood (hematuria).
- Soreness in low abdomen or sides or low back.

How can I prevent a UTI?
- Drink plenty of water
- Emptying your bladder when you have the urge or at least every 2-3 hours
- Wipe from front to back
- Make sure to empty your bladder after sexual intercourse
- Avoid “feminine products”
- If you feel any bladder irritation, make sure to avoid bladder irritating foods and drinks
- Caffeine
- Alcohol
- Bubbly drinks
- Spicy and acidic foods
