Our Behavioral Health Services
For patients needing to find a therapist, or other short-term or long-term solutions, we have a psychologist on staff.
Katherine Taylor, PsyD, MPH, PMH-C, partners with GG OBGYN to help patients find providers specializing in managing anxiety, low mood, sleep, relationship conflicts, trauma, and other concerns that may arise during pregnancy, postpartum, or life transitions.
She works with patients to identify resources that are likely to be a fit based on specialty, geography, service type and insurance (when possible). Katherine leads workshops that focus on pregnancy and perinatal topics.
We offer short-term behavioral health services to Golden Gate patients where medication management would not fall under the scope of your OBGYN provider.
Kara Birch, DNP, PMHNP-BC is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner that works to help patients experiencing a variety of stressors or mental health symptoms. She believes in working together with patients to identify the best approach to address your concerns including medications, therapeutic techniques, or community supports.
She sees non-urgent patients directly for mental health medication management. She also serves as UCSF School of Nursing Faculty and enjoys teaching and spending time outside.
Jane Abanes, PhD, DNP is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) who has worked in various areas of clinical nursing practice such as medical-surgical nursing, critical care, and psychiatry since 2003. She was an active-duty U.S. Navy clinician for over 26 years serving military personnel, federal employees, and their families while stationed in the U.S. and overseas. She specializes in the treatment of posttraumatic stress symptoms and sleep disturbances.
She received her post-masters PMHNP certification from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Science at Vanderbilt University. Her program of research is in Complementary and Alternative Medicine for mental health problems. She holds an appointment as a full-time faculty member at UCSF’s School of Nursing. Outside her clinical and teaching work, she pursues hobbies including running, reading, and traveling.
Our Behavioral Healthcare Navigator, Courtney Sproul, is often the first step in coordinating care through helping to understand your unique needs.
She partners with patients to navigate connecting to community resources and understanding mental health benefits.
She has worked across various patient support roles at Golden Gate OBGYN and her interest in behavioral health intersects with her passion for women’s healthcare. She feels honored to be a part of this support team.
